4 Alternative Methods to Download LinkedIn Videos

Here are four other tested ways to download videos from LinkedIn. They are free but less reliable and user-friendly compared to a specialized downloader.

1. Use Browser DevTools Network tab

With the native developer tools in web browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, etc.), you can find the download link of a LinkedIn video from the page source code and save the video without leaving the platform. It doesn't work for live videos since they adopts more advanced streaming protocols like HLS and RTMP to prevent unauthorized download.

Steps to download LinkedIn videos without third-party tool:

  1. Navigate to the LinkedIn post or course containing the video you want to download.
  2. Right-click on the page and select Inspect to open the Developer tools panel.
  3. Go to the Network tab > Media sub tab.
  4. Now play the video in your preferred resolution.
  5. Right-click on the media file that appears, and click Open in new tab. (Refresh the page if nothing shows)download linkedin videos in Network tab of devtools
  6. As the video plays in the new tab, click the three-dot icon in bottom right corner of the player and click Download.

2. Use Browser Extensions

Video DownloadHelper is one of the most popular browser extension for video download, available for Chrome, Firefox and Edge. It can download LinkedIn Feed videos and individual Learning course videos within the browser, but it require a companion app installation to save live streams. What's more, it may require a Premium license to get unlimited downloads on LinkedIn.

Steps:

  1. Add Video DownloadHelper extension in a supported browser, and pin it to the toolbar for easy access.
  2. Go to LinkedIn and play your desired video. The extension icon will turn colored when the video is detected.
  3. Click the extension icon to view download options, select a quality level and click the Download button.download linkedin videos with browser extension

I also tried a free and open source extension LLFetcher from GitHub, which is specially designed to save LinkedIn Learning course content including videos and subtitles, but it failed and gave an error message on my PC. If you get it working, feel free to leave a comment.

3. Use Online LinkedIn Downloader

Online video downloaders can merely save short videos shared as posts. Live videos and Learning courses requiring subscription are not supported.

Free LinkedIn Downloader by ContentStudio is a recommended one for its fast and ad-free download experience. You can use this web-based tool on both mobile and desktop.

  1. Visit https://contentstudio.io/tools/free-linkedin-downloader.
  2. Copy a video link from LinkedIn, and paste it to the box.
  3. Click on the Download button, the video will be instantly saved to your device.online linkedin downloader

4. Use yt-dlp Commands

As the Swiss army knife of video downloding, yt-dlp can download LinkedIn feed posts and Learning videos with extra steps. For users who are not familiar with command-line tools, it may take some time to learn how to use it.

Step-by-step guide:

1. Install yt-dlp for your operating system following instructions here: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/wiki/Installation

2. Open Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac), use cd command to specify where you want to store the downloaded videos.

3. Run following commands to download videos from LinkedIn:

  • To download posts and live, run the basic command line: yt-dlp "video-url" Note: when you paste the video link, delete the last part starting from the question mark to avoid fail download.
  • To download LinkedIn Learning courses, sign in to your account in browser, then run: yt-dlp --cookies-from browser "course-url"yt-dlp download LinkedIn learning courseIt will download all video items in the course one by one. If yt-dlp still fail to access the browser cookies, try close the browser and try again. To select a specific video quality, run yt-dlp -F --cookies-from browser “video-url”, this will list all formats. Then run yt-dlp -f format-ID --cookies-from browser “video-url” to download the course in preferred quality.

Conclusion

There are different ways to download different types of LinkedIn videos.

To summarise, videos shared in posts can be easily downloaded using any of the 5 ways above. For LinkedIn Learning courses, it's best to use a downloader program that supports login authentication, such as Cisdem Video Converter and yt-dlp, or try browser plugins if you don't want to install apps. It's worth noting that LinkedIn live videos are M3U8 streams that cannot be downloaded with the normal URL. That's why it's recommended to use a stream detector to extract the download link.

For users who frequently need to save videos from LinkedIn or other platforms, Cisdem Video Converter is a hassle-free option worth investing in, allowing you to download all video types easily and quickly.
